If you’re craving some adventure that tugs at the heartstrings of life’s small joys, then it’s high time you considered a hot air balloon experience. It’s more or less a craze in Luxor province, you know.
Now, there is no denying that ballooning is something of the most exhilarating experience one can have. Yes, you do spot hot air balloons filling up everywhere—Turkey, Argentina, London—but in Egypt, it’s a highly exclusive affair in Luxor. Weather here is simply too good, as if the heavens themselves invite you to fly on a gentle breeze. So, do include this pleasant adventure in your do-to list when you plan your next vacation to Luxor. Adrenaline freaks from everywhere on earth come here to experience this.
So here’s the rundown: the ride begins on the west bank, climbing, climbing, climbing to about 1500 feet high.
*The Flight:*
The journey typically begins just before sunrise, as if you’re stealing a moment from the last day before the new day has even begun. The flight takes about 30 to 45 minutes, and during this time, you have the privilege of soaking in the enchanting landscape of green fields and ancient wonders from above. You’ll gaze out over the west bank and view the towering Colossi of Memnon, the towering Temple of Hatshepsut, the towering tombs, and the world-famous Valley of the Kings. These views, seen from up high, are sure to be remembered!
*The Landing:*
Well, landing is quite a ceremony! Your soft landing will bring you to a open area of ground, far away from the crowds of people. There, the team eagerly puts on a little celebration, with much laughter and fellowship that will warm your heart. This post-party takes half an hour, during which time all the people are enjoying the euphoria of their fairy-tale experience. Cars will then come and pick you up to return you to where you will be accommodated, and it will all feel like the greatest adventure.
There’s a busy team of maybe 8 to 10 workers who load the balloon up carefully in a big truck and drive back to the west coast. And believe me, some of the suits are snapping photos along the way, which they then place in a charming little cylinder for you to hold on to and share with friends at home. A sort of souvenir to encourage wanderlust among friends!
